Frequently asked questions
What is a textile calculator?
A textile calculator works out a number that merchandisers, fabric buyers, production planners and exporters need every day — fabric GSM, fabric consumption per garment, yarn count, cost per piece, SMV or FOB price — from the measurements on your sample or cost sheet. Each calculator on this page shows its formula, a worked example and the assumptions it makes.
Which textile calculator should I start with?
For fabric weight start with the GSM Calculator, then GSM → GLM to move between kilos and metres. For an order, use the Fabric Consumption Calculator per garment and the Garment Costing Calculator for the full cost sheet up to FOB. For yarn, the Yarn Count Converter covers Ne, Nm, Tex and Denier.
Are the results exact?
The arithmetic is exact for the numbers you enter. Real fabric and production vary — shrinkage, wastage, lot-to-lot GSM and line efficiency — so treat results as planning estimates and confirm them against your own samples, markers and lab reports.
Are these calculators free?
